How things “change”… (Top Word of 2008) The Global Language Monitor has announced that “Twitter” is the Top Word of 2009 in its annual global survey of the English language. The survey examines the internet, the media, and an electronic database to estimate how many times certain topics are brought up.
Founder Paul Payack said: “In a year dominated by world-shaking political events, a pandemic, the after effects of a financial tsunami, and the death of a revered pop icon, the word Twitter stands above all the other words.”
This is great new for us at Poker, especially the social media department as this is proof, if needed, that Twitter continues to head up the portals for news and information.

We’ve been saying this at Poker for a while that Twitter would soon become as powerful as other search engines for discovering the latest happenings on the net – and it’s happening right before our eyes.
Twitter has shifted the balance from being a broadcast tool, where users tell the world about what one had for breakfast, to a portal for breaking news and information.
According to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, no longer is the day where its micro blogging format is used exclusively for “personal musings”, but “people are witnessing accidents, organising events, breaking news… and so much more”. “The fundamental open model of Twitter created a new kind of information network and it has long outgrown the concept of personal status updates”.
