Poker PR would like to wish everyone we’ve worked with this year a very Merry Christmas!
We’ve had a busy 2010 working with our favourite audio and visual provider, Avid Technology; the ground breaking www.Burn-Studios.com and its ambassadors Richie Hawtin and Cassius; the Gap Yah team including comedy troupe The Unexpected Items and super producer Adrian Zagoritis; Azuli Records, Phonetic Recordings, and loads more there’s not just enough room to list!
Our work has taken us to The Gadget Show Live event at the NEC Birmingham with M-Audio and Pro Tools. To music conferences the International Music Summit, Ibiza, and to our stand-out conference of year – the Amsterdam Dance Event, which celebrated its 15th anniversary as leading international conference and festival for electronic music.
Facebook applications have been popular amongst our clients where we’ve built a handful of interactive apps into our communication strategies. We’ve shot some interesting videos to promote new product ranges and our media campaigns have spanned international markets.
Social media was always going to become an even bigger communication tool in 2010 than it was the previous year, and throughout 2011 it’ll continue to grow, despite some brands and musicians still not understanding its weight or importance.
Next year we’ll continue to evolve, exploring new ways to speak to and connect with audiences. The music industry will face the same piracy issues and fans will continue to search for interactive content from favourite brands and artists. As long as the demand is there, we’ll continue to work with our clients finding brand new ways of audience engagement.

We’ve just returned from what we believe to be the best International Music Summit conference to date. The event excelled itself from last year with regards to the list of delegates, speakers, and panel subjects.
It’s the only electronic music conference where the best in the industry all come together to talk, well… business, which is why the event’s tagline ‘back to business’ is so very apt. This is not a big party in Ibiza, this is about people coming together to share ideas, make new contacts, engage with existing ones, and to come away feeling invigorated about our industry. The Grand Finale held at the stunning setting of Dalt Villa, with Pete Tong, Mark Ronson, and Buraka Som Sistema was yet again an example of quality and originality from the events organisers.
The conference provided an invaulable platform to launch our new Burn Studios project to a group of enthusiasts and professionals allowing us to gather on-the-spot feedback. And our IMS iPhone App built by our company Scribble received hundreds of downloads and much positive feedback.
Myself and Poker MD David Mitchell met a load of faces old and new. We’d be delighted to hear from you all again so please get in touch.

Poker PR has uprooted from the offices in England to embark on one of the most forward thinking electronic music conferences of our time – the International Music Summit.
This is our second year at the conference founded by Ben Turner of Graphite Media and Radio 1’s Pete Tong among others. Our involvement this year is three fold. Let me explain.
Poker MD David Mitchell will speak on a panel this afternoon at 17:10-18:10 titled “Our Community is Our Brand” alongside heavyweight www.beatport.com and the innovative social music store www.mflow.com
Poker’s latest project ‘Burn Studios’ will be unveiled during the event from 11:10-11:40 on Thursday 27th May in a live press conference. We’ll be there to answer all your questions on this ground breaking new project.
And lastly, Poker’s sister company Scribble has built the iPhone App for the conference. Anyone can download the app for free in the app store and gain access to live news feeds, program schedules, event info, plus music and video content and much more.
If you’re at the conference and fancy hooking up, contact us via Twitter @pokerpr. See you by the pool!

We at Poker PR have been impressed this week by two Facebook campaigns, coming for Kellogg’s and Absolut, both use the Facebook Connect function in a very clever way.
First up we have Kellogg’s and its new cereal ‘Krave’, the campaign involves users bidding for prizes using ‘Chunks’ on an external site, the prizes are pretty damn good – current item up for bids ‘4 tickets to Benicassim’, the Spanish music festival.
How do you earn your chunks? When you sign up using the Facebook Connect function you are given chunks you then earn chunks by inviting Facebook friends and you are given even more if they also sign up. The current bid for the Benicassim tickets is 208540 chunks, meaning there is a lot of sharing going on.
The second social media campaign that caught our eye this week is in the form of a short film from Spike Jonze, this very subtly sponsored by Absolut vodka. Facebook Connect comes into play when you enter the box office to get your pass to watch the film, you can invite ten people to watch the film with you, your status is updated before during and after the film telling people about the film, and finally the pass you pick up features your profile picture, a simple yet pleasant touch.
We at Poker PR thoroughly enjoyed the film, which has limited daily seats, and would recommend you take a look at Jonze’s story of robot love, (not as bad as that sounds) ‘I’m Here‘.

Poker PR is pleased to announce that our M.D., David Mitchell, will be a panellist on the ‘Our Community Is Our Brand’ panel at the rapidly approaching International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza. The panel will discuss digital communities, how and why they have changed their business and what the future holds.
David will be drawing from his many years of experience to voice his opinions on social networks, digital media, and all the other avenues that are currently available to create a community around a brand.
Also sitting on the panel are:
Callum Negus Fancey, 20 year old promoter of Lets Go Crazy, the events are aimed at 14 to 16 year olds and continue to go from strength to strength.
Denzyl Feigelson, founder of Artists Without A Label, bridging the gap between independent artists/labels and digital stores such as iTunes.
Jonas Tempel, CEO of Beatport, the largest and most popular digital dance music store.
Konrad Von Loehneysen, MD at Ministry of Sound Recordings Germany, the German division of the ever popular brand.

Universal Music are to drop the price of CDs and other major labels will more than likely follow their lead. The hope is that this price drop will bolster CD sales, which have dropped year on year for the past five years.
The news of the price drops came within 24 hours after a report commissioned by GetJar – the second largest app store to Apple – was published. The report looks at the expanding app market and the key finding is that the app market will be worth a potential $17.5 billion by 2012. This would mean that the value of apps sold would be greater than the value of CDs sold in 2012, at a predicted $13.83bn.
We at Poker PR are always waxing lyrical about the potential of the ‘album app’ and can see that when the big record companies take this on board, they will finally realise that, as a format, the CD is dead. The possibilities of the album app are endless, allowing interaction with your fans on lots of different levels, connection to social media, offering exclusive (paid) content, and allowing user generated content (remix competitions etc.) to name only a few. A CD simply does not allow these capabilities.
If you are looking to produce an app and get on board with this rapidly expanding market we at Poker PR are here to help, contact us here.
