But who ever said January had to be a quiet month and that we all should undertake the habits of a hermit crab? A few stand out events this month include an exclusive Modular Records showcase at the Big Chill Bar in East London this Thursday (7th Jan), and Blah Blah Blah at Digital in Brighton on Saturday 9th with Radio 1’s Kissy Sell Out.

On 22nd January at London’s Matter, d&b rockers Pendulum will perform a live showcase of their third album ‘Immersion’, whilst in Liverpool the following the weekend on 30th Jan, Circus marks the New Year in style with Booka Shade and Vitalic on the bill at its regular home The Masque.

We’ll definitely be there. Will you??

top_100Voting in DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 DJ poll has been closed and votes counted and verified. It’s only a matter of time now before the winner is unleashed at the Top 100 bash on Wednesday 28th October, held for the second year running at Ministry Of Sound.

It’s a poll that receives much speculation over who will scoop the top spot, and what the weight of winning the title is actually worth. The premier league of trance DJs (aka Armin van Buuren, Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk) have held the top spots for as long as we can remember, but there’s always some fascinating new entries, high climbers and surprises of those who fall out the poll altogether.

Whatever your view on the whole thang, it’s an event that DJs spend months campaigning for and the industry and clubbers alike getting excited about. Last year’s party was a complete road block, sweaty and crowded, but altogether a great shindig!

Poker PR staff were there with our client Agwa de Bolivia serving up ‘Bolivian Kisses’ in the VIP room, whilst also presenting the highest achieving DJs with gifts from M-audio in the form of their award winning MicroTrack II audio recorder.

Get there early when the Ministry doors open at 9pm and the door tax is£10 – higher than previous years, but more proceeds can go to DJMag’s chosen charity, the Royal Institute For The Deaf.

Who will be crowned the Top DJ of 2009? Get yourself to Ministry to find out.

Debates headed by big name DJs and industry experts will take place across the four days, with subjects ranging from music and technology and the youth scene, to discussions about new and emerging scenes, via sessions with legends like Richie Hawtin who’ll share his thoughts and inspirations for the scene.

There’s also a platform for new talent – ADE Next – where you’ll find a well balanced mixture of experienced producers and DJs and other professionals from all around the globe, all of whom are eager and willing to share their knowledge with anyone who wants to know.

fabric_logoWho’d a thought it?  Whether the team behind London’s coolest disco like it or not, they run one of the only super clubs to have survived the Millennium crash, and have now done so for ten years.  Birthday events happen all over the country, but this one marks something more special.  It’s testament to Fabric owner Keith Reilly that in the face of celebrity guests – he has laughed, in the face of big name headliners who would line his pockets – he has laughed, and in the face of prevailing trends – he has laughed.  Instead, Fabric has remained a beacon of the underground, has introduced countless new faces on the UK electronic scene, and has housed too many unforgettable parties to mention.

The club’s 10th Birthday will be another one of those ‘were you there when…’ moments.  Bringing together the DJs they call residents – all of whom are headliners in their own right – the DJs who’ve become synonymous with the club, and the DJs who have helped put not only Fabric on the map, but entire genres. The 10th Birthday celebrations run from Thursday 15th to Sunday 19th October.

In fact, the club will not close from Saturday morning right through until Monday. In typical Fabric style, they’re set to show the rest how it’s done when they line up the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, DJ Craze, Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Michael Mayer, Doc Martin and oh so many more…  For full line-ups see here www.fabriclondon.com
