House Trained takes over from Mr Scruff at the venue, and comes to Manchester with a very special night. Not only will this event boast a line-up of hot house talent that includes Lee Mortimer, Sharooz, One Man & His Dog and Disco Stu Bear; it’a also a mighty celebration and a night dripping in nostalgia…
House Trained Recordings will use this opening night to mark the launch of ‘Hardcore Uproar 2009′ – a revival of one of the biggest acid house anthems of all time. Manchester won’t know what’s hit it!
“As a fully fledged northerner myself, I have waited a long time for this opportunity” said House Trained’s Phil Loraine, “this night represents a tip of the hat to the old skool as we set our sights firmly on the future; using the memories of the past as a benchmark for creating equally unforgettable parties for the next generation!”

Slumdogs is the title of the latest release on Adapt Recordings, by label head, producer and DJ Jorgensen, and partner in crime, Danish Alex B.
Poker client Adapt, stands for all things emotive. Its output as a label is never pidgeon holed, but varied and eclectic. Slumdogs is a wonderful piece of techy house music, inspired by the award winning Slumdog Millionaire.
It’s got a strong remix package as Adapt searched for the best production teams around including Gabriel & Castellon and Fran Cosgrave & Ethan Project.
Already supported by the likes of Axwell, D.Ramirez and and Chuckie, Slumdogs is setting itself up to be a strong contender on many a dance floor. Keep an ear out for it at this year’s ADE where Adapt in its home country will be there strutting its stuff.

It was at BPM on Saturday 7th October that Kramnik made his first performance in the UK. He was asked to play the event, which also billed the likes of James Zabiela and MYNC Project, in the Panda Hire Silent Arena.
What a fantastic concept. Pick up a pair of headphones on your way into the silent arena, and chose the channel via a switch on your headphones of the DJ’s set you want to listen to.
Kramnik’s showcase of his newest mix, The K Song drew in the crowds, all stood by nodding heads and tapping their feet in approval.

Already leaders when it comes to digital DJing equipment, Pioneer have dealt another blow to the competition this month by releasing a brand new CDJ unit, despite their old version (the CDJ 1000) still being the industry standard.
It’s been 15 years since Pioneer released their first CD deck, but this latest incarnation allows play back from multiple sources (SD memory cards, CDs, DVDs, USB sticks). The new unit also comes with revolutionary music database management software for DJs: rekordboxTM which means that DJs no longer even need to lug CD wallets around, let alone heavy record boxes!
Pioneer are aware that, in the current climate, even hardcore vinyl junkies are turning digital and one can only imagine that’s why they’ve added native control of popular programs like Traktor Pro/Serato/Ableton Live through one of the USB ports so you can literally turn up with a laptop, plug it in and the unit knows what’s going on: it allows you to control things direct and without the hassle of soundcards and cables. Shimples.
Where other manufactures seem keen on padding-out their unit with filler features, Pioneer are all about genuinely useful additions, and is why they remain ahead of the game.

Voting in DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 DJ poll has been closed and votes counted and verified. It’s only a matter of time now before the winner is unleashed at the Top 100 bash on Wednesday 28th October, held for the second year running at Ministry Of Sound.
It’s a poll that receives much speculation over who will scoop the top spot, and what the weight of winning the title is actually worth. The premier league of trance DJs (aka Armin van Buuren, Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk) have held the top spots for as long as we can remember, but there’s always some fascinating new entries, high climbers and surprises of those who fall out the poll altogether.
Whatever your view on the whole thang, it’s an event that DJs spend months campaigning for and the industry and clubbers alike getting excited about. Last year’s party was a complete road block, sweaty and crowded, but altogether a great shindig!
Poker PR staff were there with our client Agwa de Bolivia serving up ‘Bolivian Kisses’ in the VIP room, whilst also presenting the highest achieving DJs with gifts from M-audio in the form of their award winning MicroTrack II audio recorder.
Get there early when the Ministry doors open at 9pm and the door tax is£10 – higher than previous years, but more proceeds can go to DJMag’s chosen charity, the Royal Institute For The Deaf.
Who will be crowned the Top DJ of 2009? Get yourself to Ministry to find out.
From 21st to 24th of October, Amsterdam will be bristling with bods from the dance music industry as The Amsterdam Dance Event takes place once again.
There will be a huge range of conferences, workshops and key note speeches from the most important and insightful people in the industry. Want to touch up on your production? Then checkout the session with X-Press 2 for some tips.
Got a question for Carl Craig? Then the Q&A with him and Mike Banks is for you. Debates headed by big name DJs and industry experts will take place across the four days, with subjects ranging from music and technology and the youth scene, to discussions about new and emerging scenes, via sessions with legends like Richie Hawtin who’ll share his thoughts and inspirations for the scene.
There’s also a platform for new talent – ADE Next – where you’ll find a well balanced mixture of experienced producers and DJs and other professionals from all around the globe, all of whom are eager and willing to share their knowledge with anyone who wants to know.
As well as all this, over 700 artists will perform at over 40 different venues throughout the city, from Joris Voorn to Fatboy Slim, David Guetta to Sven Vath – there’s really something for everyone at the ADE.
The Pride of Britain Award, 2009 for Fundraiser of The Year has been awarded to ex-Armed Forces Major, Phil Packer in recognition for his tireless charity fundraising for ‘Help For Heroes’.
Phil has raised £1.2million for the Help For Heroes charity after sustaining serious spinal cord injuries whilst serving in Iraq.
Phil has been inspired by all those he has met along his journey from the disabled community, to medical practitioners, and family and friends. He has now left the Armed Forces to dedicate his life to supporting Young People with Disabilities and he has set up his own charity, ‘The British Inspiration Trust’ (BRIT) to further champion people with disabilities.
The Pride of Britain Awards, in association with the Daily Mirror recognises the unsung heroes and heroines of Britain. It awards inspirational people who have gone beyond their call of duty to help of others, and it is with great honour that Phil accepts his award.
Through sheer strength and determination, Phil has raised money for Help For Heroes through a series of physical challenges. Phil hauled himself 3000ft up El Capitan Mountain in California. Three weeks earlier he walked the London Marathon, and in February 2009 – just one year on since Phil was paralysed – he rowed the English Channel.

We’ve just returned from BPM at the NEC in Birmingham – the biggest event in Europe dedicated to DJs, and so far we’ve only heard positive things about it.
The level of musical hardware in attendance was noticeably first class. Brands including Pioneer, Allen & Heath, Bose, and Poker client M-Audio were all there showcasing their latest products.
David Atkinson from M-audio sees BPM as a great tool for M-Audio:
If we want hands on, one-to-one time with DJs and producers there’s no better a place than the BPM at the NEC. It means we can demo products, talk to our customers and find out what they need.”
With an event entirely dedicated to the DJ, it was only right that a few DJs were thrown into the mix to demonstrate their skills. At one side of the arena you had James Zabiela giving the CDJ 2000s a serious work out, and at the other – the Silent Arena – hot Poker client Kramnik showcasing his new album mix, The K Song.
From a DJs point of view, Kramnik commented:
“BPM is one of the best opportunities to take a good temperature on the industry, and get a feel for what’s coming next. A definite must for anyone with BPMs in their blood…”
So positive feedback all round. Great work BPM. We look forward to attending next year.
